With Wietse, in Presidente Figuerero, at the shore of the Urubu river. We are at the waterfalls and I hear the voice of the shamans of the Waimiri-Atroari.
“This place, where you are sitting now, was our church, our temple, our gathering place. It was the heart of our community and you destroyed it. You took our spirit away. You took our life. And now we are lost in the jungle, just like you. You are lost. With your buildings, and your cooling systems, and your church that is not connected to the Great Mother, to the Spirit. You lock yourself up in houses, and buildings, and cars, and so you are not connected anymore to the great web of life, as we once were.
Yes, we are angry. Underneath our anger is sadness, because of the destruction of our culture. For what? For minerals, for oil, for wealth. But we had all the wealth, we had abundance, we had life. You never listened to the Spirit, you never listened to the land, you never listened to the Mother, and heard her message. You destroy the Mother, you destroy life. You destroy our wisdom and our message, and that’s why we are sad and desperate. If you do not listen to our message, you will destroy yourselves in the end, you will destroy life on earth.
So that’s why you came here, to listen to our message. It’s not too late, but you need to bow down your heads to become humble. You are not the lords of this place, you are not the masters of the earth, you are guests here. You are children of the Mother. You need to listen to her, connect to her heart. That is our message. Don’t become arrogant, thinking you can rule it all or find solutions to your problems. There are no solutions. Unless you listen to the heart of Mother Earth.
We are only a small voice, just one tribe living primitively in the jungle, as you see it. But we represent so much more, because our voice is your voice. Our planet is your planet. Our home is your home. When you break it down, it will be gone for all of us.
So thank you for coming here to listen to our message. We are almost gone, but you live on to tell the message.”
I now hear them singing, a passionate war song. It’s a song of winning. A victory song. It’s not only victory, it’s like enjoying life. It’s like conquering the darkness, and celebrating life. And it’s a war cry. And I hear:
“You will win, you will win!
Fight with joy and love.
Fight for the heart.
Fight for the mother.
You will win!
Don’t be desperate.
Conquer your fears, conquer your doubts.
Go for the ultimate, for the victory.
Never give up, because you are supported.
By the Great Mother.

For the forest, for the animals.
